Southeast Asia SPE Student Chapter Conference 2011
(SASC’11)
Beyond Efficiency to Effectiveness
Date: 25th – 26th November 2011
u Conference
a)      Student Session:
Topic 1: The barriers to the development (Academy/Member/Networks) for each Southeast Asia SPE Student Chapters.
In this session, all the representatives from each Student Chapter will gather at Senat Meeting Room to discuss the topic as above. There will be a moderator to raise the problems/barriers are most concerned for the Student Chapters in a list which is concluded from the feedbacks of the question in the registration form. As the list with 10 major barriers/problems mentioned by the SCs shown on the screen, the representatives are free to talk regarding to the topic. Since it’s impossible for every Student Chapter to face the same problem, so there will be some SCs have experience to deal with some of the problems in the list. So together we may conclude several plans/actions to cope the problems. At the same time, SPE Asia Pacific’s officers will sit aside and leave their comments as well.
Topic 2: SPE Asia Pacific Policy and Timeline Announcement.
The policy for Student Chapters and latest events will be introduced by SPE Asia Pacific officers in this session.
Topic 3: Discuss the possibility of forming Asia Pacific SPE Student Chapter Joint Council (APSJC)
This topic will be raised by the moderator as well. First, there will be a presentation about the current situation for APSJC which is including survey, background, budget and difficulties. After the presentation, representatives are free to give opinions on every aspect regarding to forming APSJC.
Topic 4: To be efficient with effectiveness to prepare ourselves to face the future competitive Oil & Gas Industry.
In this session, several cases of university students on wasting time/low- work-efficiency will be shown to the representatives. And all the representatives are free to give opinions to add on the cases or solve the the problems. And some Young Professional Engineers from SPE KL section will be invited to talk about their experiences.

b)     Lecturer Session:
This Session will be handled by the Professor Representatives from Faculty of Petroleum and Renewable Energy Engineering, UTM in the aims of academic/research exchange and setting up collaborations.
u Interactive Seminar
The speakers of the interactive seminar will be from the management team of Oil & Gas Corporations. And students will be divided to several groups to different speakers so that they can fully get involved. Once the speakers choose the topic they want to prepare, we will be helping them to design some games/questions in order to make the students interactive with the speakers. Once all the students get involved in the seminar, they can actually learn something with high efficiency from it. The reason to choose the speakers from management team is that students should have the skills/aware on other parts of Oil & Gas Industry as well for their future career preparations.
u Leveled Technical Talk
Unlike the usual ones, several technical talks will be held in different rooms at the same time with different levels from basic to professional which can make every participant understand what the speakers try to explain.
u Uniting Night Dinner
The dinner is a good platform to exchange culture/ideas/networks for all the participants. As Oil & Gas is a global industry, so it will be helpful for students to acknowledge the environments/culture of other countries for their better future careers.
u Campus Explore
During the short tour, participants will be guided to go around UTM, and focus on visiting the laboratories of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering.
